There’s a legal dispute going on in China for infamous energy drink Red Bull. For years now Thai Yoovidhya-Clan and Chinese owner Yan Bin are fighting a legal war the media calls „battle of billionaires“. Creative Director Fabian Lang asked to come up with a creative interpretation of this scenario for a full spread illustration in their next issue of Dossier. I did several concepts (see them below) and this was the winning one. – The idea was a setting like an ancient fight over territory in Asia.
For this illustration I had to dive deep into the details of traditional chinese and thai armour, learn their differences in weaponry and their distinct stylistic features like patterns or other decorative elements.
Concept sketches
A little glimpse into the journey of coming up with concepts for this illustration: The idea was to somehow show opposing forces. So “A” was the ancient fight, “B” was taking the bulls from Red Bulls original logo and concept “C” took the idea of Red Bull being known for its sporting events. For this job I’d love to have gone with any three of those concepts.
